My Experience & Truth About Website Optimization & Google Website Rankings

I think it’s more appropriate to simply explain our perception of what SEO means and how it will affect your website rankings. We will use “Google” as most examples as they are the big boys on the block and most other search engines pull their info from them anyway.

Search Engine Optimization is the “Buzz Word” for 2008 and will definitely be it for 2009 as well. The only difference for 2009, it will turn into a Content / Linking competition between “Like-Businesses” in any industry.

Let me explain…

It use to be that “keywords” were the cat’s meow and if you placed a zillion keywords on your website you’d be picked up and ranked really well with the search engines. Today that has all changed!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So Lets Get Started: (This is for Do-It-Yourselfers)

BEING INDEXED IS NOT THE SAME THING AS RANKING:

If you type in your domain name http://www.yourdomainname.com into the search field of Google and it pops up on the #1 page on the #1 position, Don’t get all excited!  It’s like FOOLS GOLD…  They’re simply showing the pages that are indexed by the search engine. This is not considered “Page Ranking”.

WHY PAGE RANKING MATTERS

People don’t search for "Your Business Name" when they’re looking for a service or product. They search using product and service descriptions.

There’s over 70 million results for the search term “Cheap Professional Web Site Design” and they’re on the number one position for that term… So I bet they don’t care if anyone knows your business name…  Neither should you!

If you do your optimizing correctly, eventually only those that want your services or products will know your business name but it all starts with a description search term.

By having your website properly indexed on the search engines and achieving high rankings, you will start to receive inquiries from people you had no clue were looking for your product or services.

So once again, just because you are indexed by the search engines does not mean you can sit back and wait for the cash to arrive.  It won’t happen!
